Description
Somehow the shop accepted an group of front slugs with poor quality blue anodizing.
Somehow these front slugs were assembled into drivers and aged, then assembled into finished product.
Somehow this escaped detection until these came up to the front of the line as next to be shipped. You think you have a foolproof system and then somehow the system proves you wrong. It took 17 years, but it happened.
If you compare the photo to the video you will see that the anodizing was not done completely and probably does not protect the aluminum from a potential corrosive environment as well as it should. To disassemble these now and try to recover most of the metal parts, throw away the ceramics, and reassemble into new converters would too expensive and possibly detrimental to the product quality. Scrapping them is too painful to contemplate at a time when piezo ceramic supply is not as reliable as we would wish.
These converters pass all the acoustical and electrical tests. Lack of proper anodizing does not affect the way they run nor does it shorten their life if not run in a corrosive environment.
So we decided to put these for sale as 902J Converter Replacement (Ugly) at a discounted price. Normally our price is $1,170.00. These are priced at $770, (yes, seven hundred seventy dollars) $400 off the regular price, but they will only have a one-year warranty. This should not be much of a concern because in our experience if a converter does not come back for warranty evaluation within about 6 months (or at most about 9 or 10 months) it is not coming back for warranty evaluation. So if you are not running in a corrosive environment and you need a 902J converter replacement you can choose an Ugly with some confidence. If it turns out that the poor anodizing (or anything else) is a fatal flaw that shows up in the first year from shipment as “defective materials or workmanship” as defined in our standard three-year warranty we will replace it for you (one time only, replacements do not have a warranty).
You get a great deal, we avoid scrapping them out. Win-win is always the best possible outcome of any transaction.
Please email info@tributek.com if you have any questions.
This is the only place The Uglies can be ordered, and the web site will not allow more to be ordered than we have on hand so if you try to order and are given an out of stock warning by the cart you will know they are all gone.
=== The following describes our standard product, not The Uglies ===
Made in USA direct replacement for Branson 902J converter (101-135-047) that delivers maximum ruggedness and superior quality with superior value.
A recent customer writes: “We have bought at least 10 of these converters over the last few years and haven’t had a problem with any of them. Good product.”
All of the parts used in these converters are new, not recovered from scrapped units. These converters are made in a highly controlled and repeatable manner to duplicate the performance of the OEM models. The parts are made from certified materials in tightly controlled manufacturing processes in an ISO registered facility, assembled and tested in a climate-controlled environment using carefully calibrated equipment, then properly aged and re-tested to ensure performance that duplicates the OEM part. Best of all, since the manufacturing process is so carefully controlled, durability is assured.
Our converters do not look like a Branson 902J even though specifically designed to replace them. Chrome plating is expensive and non-functional. We note that many suppliers who copy Branson’s appearance also use the 902J model designation, possibly to cause buyers to think they are getting a 902J made by Branson.
We actually made some mechanical improvements to the OEM design to make the converters more durable. We left no stone unturned to try to give you the best product anyone knows how to make. We are proud to make a unit that looks different and probably outperforms the OEM unit. As with replacement parts for automobiles, often the aftermarket part is much better and less expensive than the OEM part.
We offer the same warranty as the OEM, namely, three years one-time replacement. Simply ship the broken unit back to arrive within three years of original shipment, and it will be replaced (one time) if failure is the result of a defect in material or workmanship. See the warranty link below for the particulars.
We are obviously doing something right. As our customer said, “We have bought at least 10 of these converters over the last few years and haven’t had a problem with any of them. Good product.”
